One thing everyone hates is a show that looks so good but ends so badly, and anime is no exception. There are a few anime that I have seen so ugly that they made me angry and frustrated. Sometimes I come across an anime that is mediocre, even terrible, but somehow manages to keep me enthralled all the time. The list is completely based on my personal experience with these shows and there's a much possibility you disagree with my opinion, do me a favour, which anime in the list do you think will surprise me later or recommend me some great anime in the comments?
My Hero Academia
If you are planning to watch My Hero Academia cross it off the list now, with 25 episodes in each season except the first, the anime has produced a total of 5 seasons and 3 movies (which are mostly fillers). While the first two seasons are fun to watch and the third season is "bearable" the show loses all its charm with seasons 4 and 5. My Hero Academia comes with the most cliched storyline of Superheroes v/s. Supervillains and of course you know who wins! This show has one of the least likeable protagonists who wants to save everyone while the side characters are more fun to watch. Some of the fights are really good and well animated to catch your eye, but what's the point when the hero gets a sudden power-up to destroy his enemy with a single punch? The main target audience of this show is Teenagers, who get excited when the hero is beating the villain into a plump and want to see teens with superpowers saving the world.
Spy x Family
Hear me out, don't let the hype deceive you! The amount of attention and hype this anime received before its release was remarkable but this anime is not for everyone. Why you should watch this anime? It has a mediocre level of the storyline, humour made for kids and characters who speak in high-pitched cute voices. If you are tired of seeing all other anime containing violence and gore scenes, you can give a try to this goofy anime. Spy x Family is the perfect definition of "wholesome" nothing more than that. This show is unfit to binge-watch in a day, with its plain and simple storyline chances are less it will keep you engaged throughout.
Tawawa on Monday
A Twelve-episode original network animation (ONA), with each episode four minutes long. The ecchi life series is based on a dōjinshi with an epic storyline of "boobs". Hold your horses before you hop on it, with each episode being only four minutes long you won't find much content in it. Surprisingly the series has been rated PG, under the genre Slice of life. While some of the other obnoxious anime series on the list are still considered funny, this anime will completely ruin your time, showing you some women struggling with their huge chests in their daily life. If you really want some good ecchi recommendations to pass your time, there are many other good titles available such as High School DxD, Kiss x Sis, Prison School etc. which can become your guilty pleasure.
Monster Musume
We don't want a nasty pervert, a spineless coward, or a person who gets mad at girls. The protagonist of Monster Girl is named Kurusu Kimihoto. Although he is nothing special, I still think he is a very good harem hero. Monster Musume tells the story of an unfortunate teenager named Kurusu Kimihito, whose life is turned upside down after being registered as a "volunteer" by a government exchange program where humans co-exist with fantasy monster creatures who have an ecchi side to them. Different characters have completely different body parts, physical abilities, reproductive functions, and common sense, we get sexy monster girls. As we move from one episode to another the series becomes more and more absurd going from "bearable" to "unwatchable". For other fantasy, manga or harem anime like Monster Musume, you have several other titles to choose from.
Komi Can't Communicate
Shouko Komi suffers from a social anxiety disorder, which greatly affects her ability to connect with others, let alone make friends. Fortunately, with the help of his classmate Tadano, Komi struggles to overcome social anxiety and realizes her dream of making 100 friends. Looks like a dream of any other introvert, but unfortunately, it is quite disappointing. The anime fails in discussing a lot of aspects such as negative personality traits that may suit introverts, introverts are not always quiet, introverted, or independent. While introverts don't necessarily have social anxiety, this personality trait when combined with other factors puts them at greater risk. Some introverts may have extroverted personality traits, and some extroverts like to be alone, becoming more into rom-com anime. The anime has a great potential to attract as many viewers that can connect to this show but sadly remains another mediocre slice of life, rom-com anime.
Dark Cat
The obscure single 1991 OVA episode "Dark Cat" has been voted by anime fans as the worst anime series of all time. According to a MAL reviewer "...In fact, the whole thing watches like hentai that never quite gets to the goods - from the weirdly sexual shots to the tentacle demons the heroes battle. The tone of the dialogue and art wavers between comedy, horror and porn, an inconsistent fumble at an incomprehensible story..."
Yosuga no Sora: In Solitude, Where We Are Least Alone
Yosuga no Sora is an utter waste of time yet you enjoy watching this anime. No matter the plot or the characters you can't come to drop this anime, a perfect example of "guilty pleasure". Talking about its plot is how a boy gets *busy* with four different girls, (including her twin sister) basically a harem cum soft hentai cum incest. Haruka and Sora Kasugano who are twin siblings have lost both their parents in an accident, returning to their childhood home and recalling their old memories with the town. The weakest point of the series is the underdevelopment of characters, totally disappointing. The content this anime provides is nothing but a troll for its viewers.
Charlotte
The anime "Charlotte" is a supernatural comedy-drama. It has received acclaim from both fans and critics for its original storyline. Because the anime was original (and didn't rely on Charlotte's manga as source material), fans might not get what they expected from the season one finale. While there is no source material in the original anime, there are many plot points that left Charlotte with a lot of potentials to move forward. The Charlotte anime series consists of 13 episodes in its first season. Charlotte's latest episode acts like an entire season that is summed up and smeared with the comfort of the plot and the fast pace. Episodes 1-6 are standard anime almost to the point where they become episodic, very little happens that solidifies the relationship between the characters but instead shows what the setting will be like, to the point where a couple of times I sat there wondering that exactly what Charlotte's goal was if nothing actually moved forward.
The Promised Neverland
The Promised Neverland blew me away in season one, but things could not be justified in season two. The first season was flawless, and every episode compels you to sit tight to your seat. However, things took a 180° degree turn with season two. The main reason The Promised Neverland failed was its poor adaptation of manga even though it had a lot more potential. After the completion of season one, season two picks up where it ended, skipping one of the best arcs in the manga, and rushing toward the end of the series which made this anime a total disaster for the fans. The Promised Neverland is one of the few anime every otaku should experience. Without spoiling it, the best way to follow The Promised Neverland
is to read its manga after the completion of the first season. You can continue on from chapter 38 of the manga for a more enjoyable experience.
